The Meaning and Importance of the Resurrection
The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is central to the Christian message which means it holds a very precious place in the heart of every committed and sincere Christian. The Resurrection is the Father’s clear signal that Jesus is the one and only Son of God who conquered death and reigns as Lord of all. For us as Christians the Resurrection means that Jesus is the Christ. We believe this truth and everything that Jesus said and did. It is important that we believe that the Resurrection proves Jesus is still with us and guides us each and every day by the Holy Spirit!
The unfortunate truth is that many church services stress the empty tomb only on Easter Sunday or during the Lenten season. Some only summarize the gospel by only mentioning Jesus’ death on the cross. It’s important for us to remember that without the Resurrection the ministry of Jesus ends in defeat and disillusionment with no hope for the Christian today in this life or access to eternal life in the future. Paul emphasizes this in 1 Cor.15:12-19, that without the Resurrection, our preaching and faith would be futile or useless and the Christian life would be bleak, hopeless and pointless!
But everything changes with Echoes of Hope from the Cross and Resurrection, as we see in Matthew 28:6, where the Angel of the Lord declared, “He is not here! He is risen from the dead just as He said.” Jesus Himself reemphasizes this in Rev.1:18, “I am He that lives, I was dead, but behold I am alive for evermore…”
Brothers and Sisters let’s celebrate the fact, the truth, the reality that Jesus rose and He is alive!
